Street Parking in Florence

Official website:
https://www.serviziallastrada.it/

Street parking in Florence is regulated by:

  • Road markings (line color)
  • Vertical signs

Vertical signs always have priority over road markings.

Blue lines (Strisce blu)

  • Paid parking
  • Open to everyone
  • Payment via parking meter or app

Blue lines are always paid when payment is active, even if you have a ZTL permit.

White and yellow lines

  • Reserved for residents
  • White lines are gradually being replaced by yellow lines
  • The meaning is the same

If the vertical sign indicates:

  • "Residenti"
  • "ZCS"
  • "Eccetto residenti"

Tourists are not allowed to park, even if:

  • it is evening
  • it is Sunday
  • they are willing to pay

White or yellow spaces without any vertical sign technically exist, but:

  • they are extremely rare in the historic center
  • it is not realistic to rely on this option

How to Read Vertical Parking Signs (Very Important)

Vertical signs determine who can park, when, and how.

Common symbols:

  • Crossed hammers → Regulation valid on working days only (Monday–Saturday, excluding Sundays and public holidays)
  • Time ranges (e.g. 8:00–20:00) → Rules apply only during those hours
  • "Residenti" / "ZCS" → Parking reserved for residents only → Tourists cannot park
  • Red cross (X) → No parking at any time

Never rely only on the color of the lines.
Always read the entire vertical sign.

Evening, Night & Weekend Rules (Blue Lines)

This is where confusion is common.

In many areas of Florence:

  • Blue-line parking is paid from Monday to Saturday, typically 8:00–20:00
  • Outside these hours, payment may be suspended

This often means:

  • Saturday evening (after approx. 8:00 PM)
  • All day Sunday
  • Until Monday morning (around 8:00 AM)

During these times, blue lines that are NOT reserved for residents may be free.

However:

  • This applies only if the vertical sign confirms it
  • If the sign states "Residenti" or "ZCS", parking is never allowed for tourists
  • Some areas may still require payment on Sundays

Always check the vertical sign on site

To enter the central area by car, the following options are available:

ZTL transit only

  • Approximate cost: €5
  • Allows only transit through the ZTL
  • Does not allow street parking

ZTL transit + street parking

  • Approximate cost: €15
  • Allows:
    • Access to the ZTL
    • Parking in white-line spaces reserved for residents where vertical signage allows it
    • Blue-line parking remains always paid
