Florentine Vinaini: Tradition, Wine & Bottles to Fill
Vinaini (or vinai) are small neighborhood shops where locals buy vino sfuso—bulk wine—often poured straight from large barrels or stainless steel tanks.
In traditional vinaini, customers bring their own bottles, demijohns, or fiaschi—or buy an empty one for a small fee—and the shopkeeper fills them with the wine of their choice, usually sourced from local Tuscan wineries or small producers.
It's a budget-friendly, sustainable, and authentic way to enjoy wine—cutting down on packaging and reconnecting with genuine flavors.
⚠️ Be aware: some of these shops, known as vinaini, have become more tourist-oriented. For example, Antico Vinaio—once famous for its traditional offerings—now focuses on quick sandwiches and no longer serves bulk wine. Below
is a list of vinaini that still offer tap wine.
